A LOVE SONG TO COLLECTIVE POWER

A LOVE SONG TO COLLECTIVE POWER is a performance lecture that transforms into a theatrical confrontation between worker power and capitalism. In this staged battle, worker power wins, opening a space for a karaoke night in which the only songs available are those that grapple with labor, value, and capital.
Though at first glance these modes—labor organizing and karaoke—might appear disparate, they are united by the same principle: the transformative potential of collective action. Karaoke makes the singular act of singing a communal event, witnessed, supported, and amplified by a group. Similarly, the union renders individuals powerful through convergence, forming a legal and social body whose force emerges only through shared purpose and mutual commitment.
This work draws on my experience organizing the Art Institute of Chicago from 2019-2023, and was created in collaboration with Ania Rok, Yuval G and August Haakvag.
